Bargate

St Mary’s Street is home to a vibrant market on Saturday mornings and the popular music venue, Joiners

Bargate is located in the city centre of Southampton and is often seen as the heart of the city situated around the monumental Bargate constructed in Norman times as part of a fortified walled city granting access to the city.

With a population of around 16,600 Bargate also hosts many large events including the annual MELA seen as the most vibrant and multicultural event across the city, and also brings the city alive with its annual Chinese new year celebrations and prestigious Boat Show. Bargate, which stretches as far as Ocean Village and part of St Marys to the east as well as covering the Polygon area and Southampton Solent University.

Bargate comprises of an array of shops and restaurants including the acclaimed shopping centre West Quay, Bargate is a vibrant and popular area of Southampton Itchen.
