Bitterne ward is made up by the Thornhill estate, Bitterne, part of Sholing and the Eastpoint Centre.

While the area of Bitterne covers a huge area of Southampton, the electoral ward covers the far Eastern edge of the city. Today, however, the Bitterne can be seen as another business base in Southampton with the local Bitterne Market in the precinct and the newly built Eastpoint Centre as well as boasting many open spaces and play areas.

Each part of the ward has its own distinct character. Thornhill, Hightown, parts of Sholing, parts of Bitterne village and Thornhill Park are all part of this ward.

The Eastpoint Centre was formerly a school before John Denham joined a campaign in the 1980s to turn it into a community centre.

This mainly residential area has been represented by John Denham 30 years, having previously been a Councillor for the area before being elected as the local MP in 1992.
